Mushroom Duplex recipe homemade |easy deep fried mushroom snacks
Mushroom duplex is a stuffed mushroom recipe where mushrooms are filled with cheese, vegetables and spices. It is then coated with fine quality bread crumbs and deep fried in oil till crisp golden. It can be served as a whole or cutting into two pieces and serve with tomato ketchup or salsa.
Mushroom duplex can be serve as a mushroom snacks or appetizer in your small family get-together.
Mushroom duplex is also known as mushroom double decker. Because two mushroom are joined together to make like a decker.
Mushroom is also known as khumb in Hindi in India. So in some places it is called as bharwan khumb.
It is very popular due to it's rich healthy nutritions.

Steps to make mushroom duplex
Making the fillings
First take the Spinach(palak) and chopped them roughly. Wash and clean them properly. Make sure there is no dirt in the spinach.
Take a non stick Pan or kadai, add 1/2 tablespoon oil and heat in medium flame. When the oil become hot add the Spinach and cook for few minutes till the excess water from spinach get evaporated.
After that add the Chilly flakes, Oregano, salt and pepper. Stir for 1 minute and remove and transfer the spinach in a mixing bowl. Let them cool down completely.
The stuffing filling for mushroom Duplex is ready now. You can even use different chopped vegetables like carrot, beans and bell peppers instead of palak for the stuffing.
You can use either any of the following dipping as per your choice.
Use egg for dipping. For that just beat the egg in a bowl.
Making Mushroom duplex
Clean the mushrooms under running water and pat them dry. Slowly twist off the stems from all mushrooms. Using a small table teaspoon or with the tip of a knife make a whole into the mushrooms from where the stem was removed. So that more fillings can accommodate into the whole.Now fill all the mushrooms with the above ready spinach mixture.
Now join two mushroom with each other from the filling side and hold them tightly by pricking a toothpick inserted in between them.

Dip the joined mushrooms into the beaten egg or corn flour batter and coat with the bread crumbs .If you don't like eggs then dip them into corn starch and all purpose flour mixture.Coat them nicely from all sides with the bread crumbs .

Now heat oil in a deep vessel pan or kadai in medium flame and deep fry the mushrooms till crisp and golden .

Remove all the toothpicks from the mushrooms and cut them in middle into two parts and serve hot with your choice of sauce.

- 6-8 button Mushrooms
- 1 cup of Spinach ( Palak)
- 3 teaspoon of Mozzarella cheese
- 1/4 teaspoon of red chilly flakes
- Small pinch of oregano ( jeera powder)
- Small pinch of black Pepper
- 1 Egg
- 3 teaspoon of corn flour
- 1 teaspoon all purpose flour ( Maida)
- 1 cup of bread crumbs
- Salt as per taste
- 2 teaspoon cooking oil
- Oil for deep frying.
- Making the fillings, roughly chopped the spinach and wash them properly.
- Heat 1/2 teaspoon oil in a pan and saute the spinach till all moisture evaporated.
- Add the red chilly flakes, oregano, salt and black pepper powder. Mix then and stir for one minute.
- Switch off the flame and remove the spinach mixture in a bowl and cool down completely.
- Mix the mozzarella cheese with the above mixture.
Making mushroom Duplex
- Wash the mushrooms in running water and Pat them dry completely.
- Now slowly twist off the stem from all the mushrooms.
- Using the tip of a knife or with a table teaspoon clear the root of the stem of all mushrooms. So that the hole becom wide.
- Fill this hole of all mushrooms with the spinach mozzarella mixture.w
- Now join two mushrooms from the filling side with each other and hold them tightly by piercing a toothpick.
- Similarly join the remaining mushrooms.
- Beat the egg in a bowl or make a slurry of corn flour with water.
- Now dip the joined mushrooms either in the beaten egg or corn flour slurry. Then coat them into bread crumbs.
- Make sure all the mushrooms coated evenly from all sides with the bread crumbs.
- Rest them for 5 minutes to get set. Then heat oil in a deep vessel pan or kadai and deep fried them for three minutes or till crisp golden.
- Remove them in an absorbent paper.
- Serve them hot either by removing the toothpick and cutting into two pieces or as a whole with the toothpicks.

- I have used fresh raw mushrooms for this recipe, you can use blanched mushrooms as well.
- Fillings for the recipe totally depends upon you. You can even use the stem of them to make the fillings.
- You can use gram flour (besan) to coat them like we use to make pakoda. Make a batter of besan mixing with little corn flour, salt , green chili paste, ginger garlic paste, jeera powder and dhaniya powder. Coat the mushrooms with besan mixture and deep fry till done.
